Calculate percentages instantly — find X% of Y, what percent X is of Y, or percentage change between two numbers.
A Percentage Calculator is one of the most frequently used math tools online. Percentages appear everywhere in daily life — discounts while shopping, exam scores, salary hikes, tax rates, interest rates, GST calculations, stock market returns, and much more. This calculator handles every common percentage problem instantly.
This tool supports three types of percentage calculations:
1. What is X% of Y?
This is the most common percentage question. If something is 20% off a ₹5,000 product, how much do you save? If your bank pays 7% interest on ₹1,00,000, how much interest do you earn in a year? This calculation answers all such questions: simply enter the percentage and the base number to get the result.
2. X is what percent of Y?
This answers questions like: "I scored 82 out of 100 — what percentage is that?" or "My salary of ₹45,000 is what percent of the team average of ₹60,000?" This is also called the percentage ratio or percentage proportion calculation.
3. Percentage Change from X to Y
This tells you by what percentage a value has increased or decreased. If a stock price went from ₹200 to ₹250, what is the percentage increase? If a city's population fell from 5 lakh to 4.5 lakh, what is the percentage decline? A positive result means an increase; a negative result means a decrease.
Common Uses
- Shopping discounts: "30% off ₹3,500 — how much do I save?"
- Exam scores: "I got 68 out of 85 — what percentage is that?"
- Salary hike: "My salary went from ₹40,000 to ₹47,000 — what percent hike is that?"
- Profit/loss: "I bought shares at ₹120 and sold at ₹95 — what is my percentage loss?"
- Tax calculations: "GST at 18% on ₹25,000 — what is the tax amount?"
All three calculations are available in this single tool, making it the only percentage calculator you will ever need.
1. Select Calculation Type: Choose which type of percentage problem you want to solve — "What is X% of Y?", "X is what % of Y?", or "% change from X to Y?".
2. Enter Value A: Enter the first number (the percentage, the part, or the original value depending on the calculation type).
3. Enter Value B: Enter the second number (the whole, the total, or the new value).
4. View Result: The calculator instantly computes the answer and shows you the result with the relevant formula applied.
Three formulas are used:
1. What is X% of Y? → Result = (X / 100) × Y
Example: What is 15% of 200? → (15/100) × 200 = 30
2. X is what percent of Y? → Result = (X / Y) × 100
Example: 45 is what percent of 180? → (45/180) × 100 = 25%
3. Percentage change from X to Y → Result = ((Y − X) / |X|) × 100
Example: Change from 80 to 100 → ((100−80)/80) × 100 = +25%
Example: Change from 100 to 75 → ((75−100)/100) × 100 = −25%
Example 1 — Discount: A shirt costs ₹1,200 and is on 35% discount. What is the discount amount? → (35/100) × 1,200 = ₹420. You save ₹420.
Example 2 — Exam Score: You scored 73 marks out of 85. What is your percentage? → (73/85) × 100 = 85.88%.
Example 3 — Salary Hike: Your salary increased from ₹55,000 to ₹65,000. What is the percentage increase? → ((65,000 − 55,000) / 55,000) × 100 = 18.18%.
