Perfume Longevity & Sillage Predictor
Estimate how many hours a fragrance will last based on oil concentration, accords, skin moisture, and climate.
What is the Perfume Longevity & Sillage Predictor?
The Perfume Longevity & Sillage Predictor is a beauty decision engine designed to estimate the lasting power (longevity) and projection window (sillage) of any fragrance. Scent molecules evaporate at different rates based on formulation concentration, oil density, skin moisture levels, and external climate temperatures. This calculator analyzes these interlocking variables to predict how many hours your fragrance will remain noticeable and recommends the optimal spray count to maximize performance without overpowering your environment.
How Does the Perfume Longevity & Sillage Predictor Work?
1. Select Concentration โ Choose the formulation class of the bottle (EDC, EDT, EDP, or Parfum).
2. Select Scent Accord โ Choose the dominant note profile (Citrus/Aquatic, Floral, Woody, or Gourmand/Amber).
3. Select Skin Type โ Rate your skin moisture (Dry skin absorbs oils faster, reducing longevity).
4. Choose Current Climate โ Set the weather temperature (Heat accelerates evaporation, shortening duration).
5. Adjust Sprays โ Select the number of sprays you plan to apply.
6. Get Performance Ratings โ View your projected longevity hours, sillage window, and optimal spray count.
Formula & Calculation Method
Perfume Longevity Calculations:
- Formulation Base Hours: EDC (2.5 hrs), EDT (4.5 hrs), EDP (6.5 hrs), Parfum/Extrait (9.0 hrs)
- Accord Multipliers: Citrus/Aquatic (0.72x - volatile top notes evaporate quickly), Floral (0.90x), Woody (1.15x), Gourmand/Amber (1.35x - heavy base molecules cling to skin).
- Skin Moisture Adjuster: Dry skin (0.82x), Balanced (1.0x), Oily skin (1.18x - natural sebum locks in scent).
- Climate Evaporation Adjuster: Hot weather (0.78x - rapid evaporation), Balanced (1.0x), Cold weather (1.12x - locks notes close to skin).
- Spray Count Adjuster: Diminishing returns cap the spray volume boost between -1.0 and +2.5 hours.
Example Calculation
Example: Applying 4 sprays of an EDP Woody scent (Perfume 2) in hot weather on dry skin.
- Base Longevity (EDP): 6.5 hours
- Adjusters:
- Woody Accord = 1.15x
- Dry Skin = 0.82x
- Hot Climate = 0.78x
- Spray Count (4 sprays) = +0.0 hours (baseline)
- Projected Longevity: 6.5 ร 1.15 ร 0.82 ร 0.78 = 4.78 hours (rounded to 4.8 hours).
- Projection Sillage Window: 4.8 ร 30% = 1.4 hours of active sillage before dropping to a skin scent.
